Why I'll never stop loving what I do

Section image

As a Sr. Learning Experience Designer, I often get asked what keeps me so passionate about this work.

Actually, that's not true. No one ever asks what keeps me so passionate, because no one knows what I do :P

What is an instructional designer? A learning experience designer?

I'm an Enterprise Training Specialist. Whatever you need to train at scale, I can help with. I am a thought-leader; creative problem solver; and resourceful. I'm also very easy to work with.

But I still want to share my answer with you! My job is the perfect blend of creativity, strategy, and growth. Every day offers a new opportunity to immerse myself in different industries and learn something new, all while building meaningful learning experiences for others. Here’s why I love what I do—and why it never feels like "just a job."

Embracing Neurodiversity and Multipassionate Creativity

One of my favorite aspects of this work is the constant learning. I’ve had the privilege of diving into industries as diverse as healthcare, retail, financial services, tech, and transportation.. Whether it’s understanding the nuances of medical compliance training, the complexities of fintech regulations, or the fast-paced world of tech innovation, every project is a chance to expand my horizons.

For someone like me—a neurodiverse, multipassionate individual—this variety is a dream come true. It keeps me engaged, curious, and inspired. In a field where nothing stays static, I’m always growing both personally and professionally.

The Balance Between Creativity and Strategy

I often think of myself as an architect of learning experiences. There’s a creative rush in designing visually engaging videos, crafting interactive e-learning modules, or developing training that feels fresh and exciting. At the same time, I deeply appreciate the strategy behind it all.

Instructional design is about more than making something look good—it’s about being methodical, grounded in principles of adult learning, and respectful of the learner's time. Adults are busy, and their learning needs to be concise, actionable, and engaging. Balancing these priorities is where the magic happens.

Grounded in Fundamentals

Even in a world of constant change, some things remain consistent. My foundation in instructional design, virtual training, change management, and communication keeps me grounded. These skills provide a roadmap for navigating ambiguity and crafting solutions that work.

I love that my job allows me to solve problems creatively while staying methodical. Whether it’s through creating an onboarding journey, building an experiential e-learning experience, or facilitating a technical training session, I get to combine my love for design with a clear focus on strategy and outcomes.

Respecting my fellow adult learners

At the heart of my work is a commitment to respecting the time and needs of adult learners. I aim to create experiences that not only engage but also empower learners to apply new skills immediately. Every piece of content, every interaction, is designed with purpose and care, ensuring it adds value to their lives.

My Hot Take

Being a learning specialist isn’t just a job; it’s a calling. It’s a role that lets me flex my creative muscles, satisfy my strategic mind, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of others—all while growing myself. For me, this work is a journey, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you’re curious about creating meaningful learning experiences or navigating the ever-evolving world of adult education, let’s connect. I’m always up for a conversation about how we can shape the future of learning together!
